It was centuries ago, European countries started attaching sleigh bells onto harnesses of sleigh horses to warn off pedestrians by sound, which was especially efficient in winter times when the ground was covered by thick snow. Jingle bells were also developed into a form of percussion instruments, with their bright tone along with its connotation with the winter, the sound of jingle bell has almost become an unofficial symbol that represents Christmas.
